I got the call from Iditarod school district today and tentatively said I would take the job. There is so much to do before going. Opening a blog site was one of them.
I am the Library / Media Specialist for the Iditarod Area School District in south central Alaska. The district is about the physical size of the state of Montana and serves about 500 children in 8 villages, each of which is accessible only by bush plane. Of the 8 villages,
6 will be check-points in the 2007 Iditarod Race the first week of March. The School district office is located in McGrath which is about 200 miles from the nearest road in or out of McGrath. It is situated in a horseshoe bend of the Kushkokwim River. The population is less than 400 wonderful, warm and welcoming people.
